Cognigen Corporation, Buffalo, NY (April 2008 - )

Cognigen logo Through prospective planning and targeted data assembly, Cognigen Corporation helps their clients leverage the power of pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analyses, statistical modeling, and simulations to generate knowledge for decisions at critical development milestones. Since 1992, they have partnered with the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, the World Health Organization, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and provided support for development programs for over 100 drugs.
The RTU is assisting Cognigen Corporation in the development of an end product that is a combination of team communication and quality management system for knowledge workers based on Basic Formal Ontology and Referent Tracking.

 

Sigmund Software, LLC, Brewster, NY (March 2007 - )

Sigmund logo Sigmund™ is an enterprise management software application for human service agencies. Its features and performance reflect the experience gained employing a team of behavioral health practitioners in developing, producing, installing and supporting the system since its inception in 1988.
One component of the system, Target Behavior Tracking (TBT™) standardizes patient assessment by quantifying a patient´s symptoms and distress into meaningful and immediately useful data. TBT™ tracks a patient´s observed target behavioral symptoms (e.g., anxious behavior, aggression, depression, hallucinations), medication type and dosage, psychotherapy, group therapy and other treatments. This information is then systematically analyzed by specialized software to identify treatment effectiveness correlations that are otherwise elusive.
The RTU is exploring how TBT™ which is currently used within individual organizations can benefit from referent tracking to develop a cross-institutional knowledgebase linked to other behavioral assessment tools.

 

Medtuity Inc, Westerville, OH (Dec 2006 - )

Medtuity Inc logo Medtuity Inc develops MedtuityEMR, and EHR application used by providers of primary care as well as secondary care. It is a Client-Server application developed in C++, which can be run on either Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional. One of the more remarkable features of MedtuityEMR is that it enables a user to generate a fully readable, highly detailed progress note using only point-and-click controls whose instances are used by clinicians throughout the application to document the patient encounter. MedtuityEMR stores the data that result from manipulating the controls in a compressed XML file having a structure roughly equivalent to that of a SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Planning) note. The RTU is carrying out the research to make this system referent tracking compatible without creating any additional burden on behalf of MedtuityEMR's users or developers. This includes defining the methodology and proposing a middleware component to link MedtuityEMR's database to a Referent Tracking System.

 

Uniform Data System, Buffalo, NY (February 2007 - )

Medtuity Inc logo Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation was developed with support from the U.S. Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, grant number G008435062. The goal of the project was to develop a method to meet the long-standing need to document the severity of patient disability and the outcomes of medical rehabilitation. The national task force that created the Uniform Data Set for Medical Rehabilitation, starting in 1983, was co-sponsored by the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as eleven other national professional organizations. Today, over 1,400 facilities world-wide subscribe to UDSMR, and the databases include over 13 million patient assessments.
Within the scope of the mission of the Center for Functional Assessment Research, the RTU is exploring how ontology and referent tracking can contribute to the identification of better performance indicators for inpatient rehabilitation facilities that use assessment instruments in the portfolio of UDS.

Infor-med Corporation logo Infor-Med Corporation, developer of Praxis EMR, is a privately held, profitable company established in 1989. Over the past 18 years, Praxis EMR has established a dedicated and active customer-base of over 5000 physician-users, in every specialty, across all 50 states, Canada, and throughout the world. The system is build around a Concept Processor which is a software engine that greatly enhances the documentation of new patient encounters by instantly retrieving text from the most similar previous encounter for review, editing and reuse with a new case.
The RTU explored how referent tracking could contribute to make the knowledge gathered in the processor more explicit such that it could be used for additional forms of automated decision support inside one system and to enhance semantic interoperability across systems.
